HP Envy TE01-1022 Review (2020 model)

HP Envy TE01-1022 Review (2020 model)

The HP Envy Desktop is a complete redesign of its predecessor. While the 2016 Envy was a bulky mid-tower with a micro-sized footprint, the 2020 model is more compact and has been engineered from the ground up to accommodate the latest hardware. In doing so, it also becomes one of the most potent small form factor PCs available today featuring an Intel Core i7-10700K CPU and 16 GB DDR4 memory.

Since this is a complete renovation of the previous model, it shares almost similar looks and design. In other words, the 2020 model is still largely made from plastic but features a sleek matte back-plate with a simple plastic front panel.

Pros

  • A very sleek chassis
  • Solid productivity performance from eight-core Intel Core i7 CPU
  • Optical drive

Cons

  • No discrete graphics card
  • Lackluster gaming performance

The HP Envy TE01-1022 desktop is a valuable desktop computer that offers a unique blend of performance and design. For just under $1000, you get a pretty sleek PC capable of handling most productivity and entertainment tasks while still remaining portable and easy to carry. It also features a discrete optical drive which is rare today in the world of computers, especially among modern PCs. While not perfect, it’s certainly one of the best SFF consoles you can get for your money at this point in time.

Under the hood, you get an eight-core Intel Core i7 processor, lots of storage (512 SSD + 1TB HDD), and 12GB of memory. The PC itself has a unique, compact design that will surely turn heads. It also comes with a mouse and keyboard, as well as an optical drive for those who still enjoy using disc media from time to time.

This desktop is powerful enough to handle most productivity and entertainment tasks (such as web browsing and watching videos). You can even use it for work or school-related projects like excel spreadsheets and presentations. While not the most powerful machine on the market, this is certainly one of the best value budget PCs we’ve reviewed in recent months.

If you’re looking for something that’s easy to carry around but packs a punch then look no further than HP Envy TE01-1022 Desktop Computer.

  • 1 TB Hard Drive
  • 512 GB SSD Storage
  • Windows 10 Pro

Design

The HP Envy TE01-1022 Desktop flaunts a new design which is sleeker than its predecessor. The front of the PC features a simple plastic bezel with no hardware buttons or screen, giving it an uncluttered look.

The 2020 model also has improved airflow and ventilation to ensure proper system cooling while running at full load. The Nightfall Black chassis of the HP Envy TE01-1022 features a sleek matte back-plate that is elegant and professional-looking.

The 2020 model of the Envy TE01 also has an optical drive, which isn’t something you see every day in computers these days. Apart from being able to run high-resolution games at impressive settings, this PC can also be used as a media center with its ability to read CDs and DVDs.

Unfortunately, there are no hardware buttons for power or reset on this device so you’ll have to rely on the keyboard for those functions. The case itself doesn’t offer much room inside either so it’s kind of difficult to upgrade some components if need be.

Ports

Connectivity ports are located on both sides of the front panel. Here, you will find four USB Type-A ports, a full-sized SD card reader, and a single USB Type-C port. All these ports come together to create a nice-looking exterior that matches the black chassis of this PC. Additionally, such an array of ports makes it easy to plug in extra storage or add peripherals to this device.

The rear ports include additional four USB Type-A ports, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, HDMI and VGA video outputs, two 3.5mm audio outputs, and a microphone input. You also get a DVD-RW drive and a Kensington lock slot. This HP Envy also includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless connectivity.

Performance

Intel Core i7-10700 Processor

The HP 2020 model comes with an eight-core Intel Core ix-10700 processor. With a base clock speed of 3.2GHz and a Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz, this processor is no slouch in terms of performance as it can handle most standard productivity tasks without issues such as web browsing, document editing, and video streaming. This makes the TE01 suitable for those who want to use their computer for work or school projects too such as those involving excel spreadsheets or presentations. While it is a beast in real-time usage, don’t expect it to edit 4K video.

However, keep in mind that this isn’t the most powerful consumer PC out there at the moment you’re still getting good value with the 2020 model. It easily outclasses similar devices in this price range, so it can be a good alternative for people who want a system that performs well without breaking the bank.

16 GB of RAM

The HP Envy TE01 2020’s memory is composed of 16GB of DDR4-2133MHz  RAM which means that you’ll have plenty to run multiple applications at once with no slowdown or stuttering issues when switching from one window to another. This makes it possible to use this PC as a media center when streaming videos from your favorite websites all while working on a separate project at the same time without any problems. You don’t need more than 16GB of RAM for today’s standard computing tasks and in most cases, you won’t even notice any difference between this and 32GB of RAM in terms of speed.

Storage

The 2020 model of the HP Envy TE01 comes with 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD storage configurations that offer plenty of room for your data and applications. 1TB 7200RPM SATA HDD for storage so you will have enough space to store all your files, music, videos, and game installations with room to spare.

With an SSD as its primary drive, you should be able to boot up Windows 10 Pro quite quickly while loading apps shouldn’t be too much of a problem either. Thanks to the decent-sized SSD, it will be good for installing frequently used programs such as web browsers or Microsoft Edge on this SSD since they’ll load up really fast with the help of the PCIe interface. This way you can use that HDD for mass storage while still getting program loading speeds that are normally restricted to SSDs alone.

The 2020 HP Envy is quite an impressive machine with its expandable memory and upgradable storage options. But more than that, the 2020 model of this computer tower looks sleek and stylish which can complement any type of home and office setup without looking too out of place unlike other computers on the market today. I am definitely one of those people who would want to buy this amazing PC if I had the chance to do so as it just has everything you need to get started in any form of work or entertainment activities whether you’re using it at home, school or even work! Also, not everyone’s going to find this valuable but you should know that it comes pre-installed with full versions of Microsoft Office Home.

Gaming

As far as gaming goes, yes you can play a few non-triple-A titles on it. The  Intel UHD Graphics 630 it comes with can handle light to medium gaming without much of a problem. The 2020 model can handle most games released in 2017 at 1080p resolution on low to medium settings. If you push the settings up too much, then performance will range from around 25fps all the way up to 60 fps which is impressive for an integrated graphics card!

Power Supply

Now our last standard feature that every computer should have these days is its power supply unit (PSU). The HP Envy TE01 2020 comes with a 300W PSU that’s more than enough to get the job done but still, I feel like they could’ve included something more powerful here even though it’s pretty unlikely that you’ll need anything above 300W unless you plan on getting yourself a new graphics card or two as well as a number of storage drives to go with it.

Conclusion

The HP Envy TE01-1022 is currently available for slightly above $1,000 and we can’t recommend this PC enough to anyone looking for an affordable and feature-packed tower PC.

While its gaming performance isn’t the best, it still can handle most modern games at 1080p/60 fps without too many compromises in terms of visual quality even on medium settings. With its sleek design, upgradable storage configurations and expansion options, this computer tower is definitely one that you’ll want to have in your home or office! So if you’re in the market for an out-of-the-box productivity desktop, then definitely check out the HP Envy TE01-1022.
